Scientific Glassblower
About The Position
Vector Atomic, an IonQ company, is seeking a versatile scientific glassblower to build vapor cells for quantum devices used in timekeeping and magnetic sensing for autonomous/GPS-free navigation, satellite communications, and geophysical exploration. This hands-on role operates in a dynamic R&D environment and calls for a skilled, flexible candidate who can apply a strong subset of the listed capabilities and rapidly learn new ones. Work includes scientific glassblowing with quartz and borosilicate, surface polishing and frit bonding, and building and maintaining vacuum systems. Applicants must meet U.S. export-control eligibility requirements: be a U.S. citizen, lawful U.S. permanent resident, or qualify in certain refugee or asylee categories. The position offers a base salary range of $80,000 to $120,000 per year; total compensation includes base pay, bonus, equity, and benefits. Actual pay depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
Requirements
- 2–5 years of experience as a professional scientific glassblower.
- Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and collaborators, both in writing and verbally.
- Hands-on experience with several of the following: building scientific glassware, optical polishing, frit bonding, advanced optical bonding techniques, vacuum systems, mechanical design, surface chemistry, optical coatings, vapor cells for spectroscopy, and laser spectroscopy.
- Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful U.S. permanent resident, or belong to certain qualifying refugee or asylee categories to comply with U.S. export-control laws.
- Ability and willingness to rapidly learn new skills in a dynamic R&D environment.
