Role Overview Builds on the ASD. Responsible for the scientific output of multiple (typically 2–3) account teams. Supports expansion of others, shares expertise, fosters a one-team approach, and identifies areas where the agency can act as a strategic partner. Provides leadership and scientific direction throughout projects.

Requirements

  • Degree level or higher in a biomedical science.
  • Extensive med comms agency experience with strong evidence of teamwork and leadership.
  • Evidence of new business acquisition.
  • Experience of strategically focused projects that delivered measured changes in HCP opinion or behaviour.
  • Excellent attention to detail; strong grammar and syntax.
  • Strong project management and commercial acumen.
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder communication.
  • Solid understanding of drug development, EU/US regulations and publication processes (ICMJE, GPP).
  • Solid understanding of brand planning and medical strategic process.
  • Highest-quality scientific writing, literature search and appraisal.
  • Committed to coaching junior writers.
  • Willingness to travel (domestically and internationally).

Responsibilities

  • Development & delivery of high-quality content
  • Own scientific output of significant (typically 2–3) account teams; supervise and encourage strong teamworking.
  • Research, write and review content to highest standards across all materials.
  • Take a lead on resolving challenging or complex client comments.
  • Drawing on experience, recommend processes and templates to facilitate efficient workflow and delivery.
  • Knowledge of therapy areas
  • As strategic comms and TA expert, be the prime client POC.
  • Keep TA knowledge current and disseminate; advise how communication should evolve.
  • Lead patient and KOL discussions to develop expert TA knowledge.
  • Provide insight and counsel on market trends and product strategy.
  • Supervise application of insights to current projects and future tactics.
  • Be a role model for grounding all work in client strategy and industry change.
  • Working with internal teams, clients and KOLs
  • Act as consultant to clients; lead strategic plan development; gain buy-in from multiple stakeholders.
  • Nurture strong relationships with KOLs.
  • Direct projects that meet strategic imperatives.
  • In accounts with limited strategic input, identify partnership opportunities; support other teams (e.g. through secondments) to work strategically.
  • QC, team development and account growth
  • Coach, mentor or line-manage writers; demonstrate leadership across the business.
  • Ensure writers work for optimal agency outcomes — efficiency, expansion, positive image.
  • Foster a “one team” environment with the CP lead.
  • Lead expansion of main account; apply experience to adapt approaches to current client needs.
  • Support expansion of other accounts, sharing expertise on product strategy, project types and ways of working.
  • Lead and take ownership of new business proposals and pitches.
  • Provision of scientific direction
  • Act as senior (lead) SciS contact; lead client and KOL meetings.
  • Lead the SciS portion of the account team; partner with CP for timely, high-quality delivery.
  • Provide leadership and scientific direction throughout the project (brief through debrief).
  • Sign off final materials; provide scientific direction for creative.
  • Communication & proactivity
  • Maintain constant, clear communication with account teams and resourcing on resource requirements.
  • Brief, review and feedback on freelance writers; integrate freelancers into account teams.
  • Drive clear, proactive communication on projects and on agency goals/initiatives/updates.
  • Encourage information-sharing and collaboration across teams.
  • Adherence to SOPs, laws & guidelines
  • Role-model adherence to agency processes (including all review steps) and compliance guidelines; coach/monitor staff.
  • Identify areas for process improvement; support process refinement; update staff on changes.
  • Educate the team and ensure compliance of all materials produced.
  • Following training, work in alignment with processes (agency and/or client) for legal/regulatory compliance (ABPI, EFPIA, FDA, PAAB, IMC codes); upload and reference items for review.
  • Congress / meeting support
  • Attend congresses, advisory boards, or client meetings on own or as onsite team lead; debrief afterwards.
  • Working with other agencies, ensure congress activities fit seamlessly into client’s programme.
  • Lead conversations at congresses with KOLs on TA trends; advise clients how insights can be used.
  • Business development
  • Transform data, market trends and KOL opinion into useful BD intelligence.
  • Lead activities for de novo new business.
  • Identify areas where the agency can provide further value to existing clients.
  • Support other teams (e.g. through secondments) to work strategically.
  • Deepen client relationships through new approaches; identify new business leads and take them to completion.
  • Financial awareness
  • Provide input into budgets and schedules throughout all project stages.
  • Support CP in flagging and justifying out-of-scope requests.
  • Promote financial awareness in the team — efficiency, budget adherence, hour tracking, client communication.
  • Complete timesheets daily.
  • Resourcing
  • Plan resource requirements with CP well in advance; seek additional resource when needed.
  • Recruitment
  • Support recruitment effort for SciS staff; identify recruitment improvements and contribute solutions.
