About The Position

The Director, Scientific Publications is responsible for the development of high-quality clinical publications and reviews for investigational pipeline products in Oncology R&D. In addition, the Director will be responsible for the development and delivery of strategic Publication Plans for pipeline assets. The Director will also have the opportunity to lead cross-functional publication teams, ensure publication plans align with project and overall Oncology R&D strategy, and ensure that these partnerships are successful and that plans represent a transparent and fair balanced communication of data.

Requirements

  • PhD, PharmD, MD or advanced scientific degree in a biomedical field with proven scientific and/or publications expertise
  • 5+ years of experience in medical communications/publications in pharmaceutical/biotech industry, medical communications agency, CRO, publishing, or academic setting with equivalent work experience
  • Proven track record of collaborative and consultative cross-matrix abilities
  • The ability to appreciate and work within a large strategic framework, while maintaining strong attention to detail and compliance to global publications ethical standards and company publications policy and SOPs
  • Ability to understand and adhere to good publication practices and relevant guidelines on and scientific data communication, such as ICMJE, GPP3, company policy and SOPs
  • Detailed working knowledge and understanding of publication strategy and planning
  • Previous experience with management of contract resources/vendors
  • Demonstrated ability and flexibility to prioritize while supporting multiple projects, dealing effectively with change and ambiguity
  • Broad understanding of drug development process
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with external experts, investigators, journal editors and publishers and professional bodies
  • Working knowledge of Datavision publication management systems
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor others during the flow of work
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Solid understanding of publication management databases (iEnvision, Datavision)

Nice To Haves

  • AMWA, BELS, and/or ISMPP (CMPP) certification
  • Background in biologics and/or previous experience in oncology products
  • Previous experience writing and editing peer-reviewed clinical publications highly desirable

Responsibilities

  • Leads the cross-functional team responsible for the publication development process to deliver high-quality publication.
  • Effectively collaborates with key partners and ensures compliance with internal and external publication guidelines.
  • Leads the cross-functional team to deliver strategic publications plans that are aligned with project strategy.
  • Accountable for managing 3rd-party providers in the delivery of defined publications activity, ensuring quality and delivery standards are adhered to.
  • Develops and ensures that strategically aligned scientific communication points are delivered and that statements and conclusions in publications are accurate and supported by appropriate data.
  • Uses subject matter expertise to provide publications insight to partners, collaborators, and more junior team members.
  • Provides on-site support at key scientific congresses and meetings.
  • Ensures the high quality and transparency of publications by maintaining /promoting familiarity with ICMJE, GPP3, CONSORT, AMA, and other external standards as well as AstraZeneca publication policies and procedures.
