Requirements

Advanced degree (DVM, and preferably MS or PhD or equivalent), and ACVP board certification in Clinical Pathology or “board eligible” with a solid foundation in Industry clinical pathology, toxicology, and related disciplines such as metabolism and pharmacokinetics.
Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in the biopharmaceutical industry and/or a contract research organization (CRO), with substantial responsibility for interpreting clinical pathology data from nonclinical studies.
Demonstrated broad experience contributing to product registration activities, regulatory submissions, and supporting dossiers.
Solid understanding of GLP regulations and their application in an Industry clinical pathology laboratory environment.
Strong comparative clinical pathology expertise, including interpretation of data from toxicity and/or efficacy studies conducted in a diverse array of nonclinical species.
Comprehensive knowledge of the drug discovery and development process, including the biology and pathophysiology of one or more disease target areas.
Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate, and concise regulatory reports.
Strong scientific problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret and integrate diverse data types.
Experience serving on or leading cross-functional teams, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to align people, resources, and activities with departmental and divisional objectives.
Demonstrates scientific leadership with the capacity to drive issue resolution and influence the direction of discovery or development programs.
Potential and ambition to take on an expanded leadership role within the Pathology department or cross-functional project teams in the future.

Responsibilities

Provides expert scientific interpretation and integration of clinical pathology data from nonclinical development studies.
Serves as a scientific advisor to the Clinical Pathology laboratory in New Brunswick and collaborates with other functions within Nonclinical Drug Development Sciences (NDDS).
Reviews non-GLP and GLP study protocols and provides input into the design of clinical pathology endpoints and analyses.
Prepares clear, accurate, and scientifically rigorous clinical pathology reports that communicate the significance of findings for nonclinical safety assessment and regulatory submissions.
Serves as an independent clinical pathology scientific reviewer for outsourced toxicology studies.
Provides expert consultation on unusual or complex clinical pathology findings, including cytology, bone marrow aspirates, urine sediment, and exploratory biomarker selection, and participates in multifunctional investigative toxicology teams, as needed.
Collaborates with NDDS colleagues to optimize use of clinical pathology resources across various BMS sites (as feasible).
Continuously evaluates and applies new scientific methodologies to meet research and drug-registration needs and resolve toxicity-based issues.
