The Science Teacher is responsible for developing and implementing curriculum plans, preparing lessons that accommodate individual student differences, and presenting subject matter according to established guidelines. The role involves employing various instructional techniques, cooperating with staff on instructional goals, and planning assignments for teacher aides and volunteers. Technology integration in the teaching and learning process is expected, as is assisting students in improving study habits. The teacher will assess student accomplishments, provide progress reports, and may assume responsibility for extracurricular activities. A positive role model is expected, along with creating a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for student maturity and interests. Classroom control and discipline must be administered according to board policies. The teacher will take necessary precautions to protect students and school property, assist in selecting instructional materials, and maintain open communication with students and parents. Professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members are essential, as are acceptable communication skills. Participation in district staff development, professional improvement, and demonstrating professional, ethical, and responsible behavior are required. The teacher must stay informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies, and compile, maintain, and file all required documents. Attendance and participation in faculty meetings and serving on staff committees are also part of the role.
