Science Teacher, grades 7-12
About The Position
The Science Teacher develops students’ skills and competence in one or more fields of science, including general science, earth science, biology, physiology, chemistry, and physics. The role develops students’ abilities in scientific methods and problem-solving and their understanding of how science can be applied to practical problems. The teacher works under the general supervision of the School Principal and teaches in accordance with the district curriculum. This is a full-time, 10-month, tenure-track assignment at Resilience Academy. The salary is approximately $64,868–$85,536, negotiable based on qualifications and experience. A full complement of health benefits is offered.
Requirements
- New York State certification in Science grades 7–12.
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy.
- Knowledge of a wide range of science subjects, including general science, earth science, biology, physiology, chemistry, physics, and related areas such as mathematics.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
Nice To Haves
- Certification in Students with Disabilities (SWD) is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Teach knowledge and skills in one or more fields of science in accordance with the district curriculum.
- Promote critical and creative thinking and analysis across related subject areas.
- Maintain a safe classroom environment conducive to individualized and small-group instruction and student learning.
- Design learning activities that demonstrate science’s application to everyday life, including research projects, demonstrations, experiments, and laboratory activities.
- Instruct students in the proper use and care of scientific equipment, chemicals, and plant and animal life.
- Assess student learning and progress on an ongoing basis and adapt instruction to individual student needs, including the needs of students with special needs.
- Provide individual and small-group instruction as needed.
