Science Education Instructor - Part-Time
About The Position
Discovery Cube is seeking a part-time (12-15 hours per week) informal Science Education Instructor who is personable, energetic, and professional. This role is crucial in fulfilling the mission of educating young minds, assisting teachers, and increasing public understanding and appreciation for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). The instructor will engage with students and families through hands-on science education initiatives, contributing to the organization's core initiatives in STEM proficiency, early childhood education, healthy living, and environmental stewardship.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years experience working with children
- Experience working in an educational institution
- Experience working with science concepts
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Possess vehicle driver’s license and insurance
- Excellent work ethic
- Must be able to lift 50lbs
- Comfortable learning and teaching basic science concepts
- Quick learner
- Exceptional planning and organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to perform and teach to school groups, educators, community-based organizations and families
- Self-motivated
- Ability to work independently and in teams
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Knowledge of a second language preferable, but not required
- Flexible- this position requires the ability to maintain a flexible schedule and work in a variety of locations
Responsibilities
- Conduct educational programs at school sites and onsite at Discovery Cube with students and families
- Conduct virtual educational programs as needed
- Teach science enrichment activities to students in grades K-8
- Assist children with hands-on projects and activities
- Attend weekly staff meetings and trainings
- Prepare for lessons and master content knowledge-hands-on training and professional development provided
- Collect, store and maintain materials
- Drive to and arrive promptly at schools throughout Southern California
- Perform other duties as needed
