About The Position

This application is for Fall 2026 hiring. CTL Student Learning Assistance is a program available to UNM students enrolled in undergraduate classes. Our mission is to enrich the academic climate at UNM and create lifelong learners. The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL, formerly known as CAPS) is looking to hire new tutors to support Math and Science classes in our drop-in center starting in the Fall of 2026. CTL’s mission is to make learning more accessible for everyone on UNM’s campus by providing services that meet the needs of all Lobos. We are a peer-centered learning center, which means that as a tutor, you’ll be supporting your fellow Lobos while also having the opportunity to focus on your own content mastery and tutoring skills. Each semester, CTL tutors will gain accreditation through the nationally recognized College Reading and Learning Association. We are looking for students who have done well in their classes and are excited about helping out their peers. Prior experience with tutoring is appreciated but not required. Applicants will be asked to indicate which subject areas they are applying to be tutors for. Potential tutors should have received a B+ or higher in the classes that they are applying to tutor. However, we do hire tutors who achieved lower grades in some classes and demonstrated growth across higher level courses. We most commonly support Math, Physics, Statistics, Chemistry, and Biology classes. Preference will be given to students with work study, but all students can be hired by CTL. CTL is especially interested in hiring students who are able to tutor STEM subjects in Spanish. While a few online shifts may be available, tutors will be expected to work a majority of their hours in person. CTL tutors are expected to have taken at least 2 semesters in classes that they are applying to be a tutor for.
