About The Position

Under general supervision from the school principal, the schoolteacher quality classroom instruction guided by the Arizona State Standards and creates an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for academic, intellectual, emotional, physical, spiritual and psychological growth. The teacher is responsible for planning, organizing and implementing an instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students and results in academic achievement in accordance with Salt River School’s policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university.
  • Must hold current valid Arizona teaching certificate, with required endorsement(s) and/or approved area(s) for subject(s)/level(s) assigned.
  • Must be appropriately certified in accordance with Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) In content area and Arizona Department of Education laws and regulations.
  • At least (1) one year of student teaching and/or approved internship.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Arizona State Academic Standards.
  • A willingness to learn and understand: History, culture, traditions, and customs of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community
  • Knowledge of: Arizona State Academic Standards for grade levels/subject area assigned, to include reading and writing across content areas
  • Knowledge of: Current curriculum and instruction
  • Skilled in: Innovation and problem solving
  • Skilled in: Implementation of effective classroom management

  • Must be able to pass a Pre-Employment Drug Test and extensive Fingerprint and Background Check.
  • Employee is Subject to Random Drug Testing and completion of a Background Check every five (5) years.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, prepares and delivers instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences; monitors and adjusts as required.
  • Uses formal and informal assessment to monitor student progress toward the school achievement goals.
  • Develops lesson plans using the Arizona State Standards and instructional materials to meet the needs of each student and ensure growth.
  • Provides individualized and small group instruction as appropriate to enhance the learning process.
  • Conducts instruction with clearly stated objectives.
  • Uses a variety of instructional strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, student-to-student discourse, lecture, and discovery to meet students’ varying needs.
  • Creates an effective learning environment.
  • Integrate the use of educational technology in the classroom to support instruction.
  • Maintains a safe, organized, and high-quality environment that facilitates learning and minimized student disruptions.
  • Observes and evaluates students’ performance and development; provide appropriate and timely feedback on work.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development, as required by laws, board policies and school regulations.
  • Communicates necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents/guardians regarding students’ progress and students’ needs.
  • Identifies students’ needs and collaborates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning needs.
  • Maintains professional effectiveness through in-service education activities provided by the Division and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Collaborates and participates in a Professional Learning Community.
  • Supervises students in and out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  • Administers and monitors assessments in accordance with Division testing protocol.
  • Stays current with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and makes relevant adjustments to instructional plans and learning activities.
  • Participates in faculty committees, meetings and the sponsorship of student activities.
  • Demonstrates ethical and professional practices in working with students, parents, colleagues, and student records.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
