About The Position

As a School Social Worker, you will play a key role in helping our Graduation Candidates (GCs) overcome real-life barriers that impact their ability to stay engaged in school. This is an opportunity to work directly with students and families, build meaningful relationships, and make an immediate impact. This role is ideal for both experienced professionals and recent MSW graduates with a Florida license who are ready to jump in, make an impact, and grow quickly in a mission-driven environment and who are passionate about student advocacy, community engagement, and equity in education. You’ll gain hands-on experience in a supportive, mission-driven environment while developing critical skills in case management, counseling, and cross-functional collaboration.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education
  • Active Florida certificate in School Social Work or valid Florida Clinical Social Worker license
  • Experience working with youth, families, or diverse populations (internships and field placements count)
  • Excellent communication, data analysis, and case management skills
  • A commitment to educational equity and student advocacy

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with high school or middle school students
  • Experience supporting at-risk youth or in non-traditional school models
  • Knowledge of Florida compliance requirements and local community resources
  • Familiarity with FERPA, HIPAA, and student privacy regulations
  • Experience with behavior interventions, attendance support, or truancy processes
  • Bilingual (Spanish preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Re-engage students who have been absent 5+ days or are at risk of withdrawal
  • Build relationships with students and families to support attendance, persistence, and graduation
  • Conduct parent and student meetings to assess needs and develop intervention plans
  • Provide individual student support and sessions as needed
  • Manage a caseload of at-risk and high-risk students, including pending withdrawals
  • Connect students and families to critical resources (housing, food, Medicaid, transportation, etc.)
  • Support truancy interventions and attendance-related processes
  • Handle mandated reporting (e.g., child abuse/neglect) and coordinate next steps
  • Conduct regular home visits within the local community
  • Serve as a liaison between the academy, families, and community organizations
  • Build partnerships with local agencies to support student and family needs
  • Maintain accurate documentation aligned with district and regulatory requirements
  • Participate in the Threat Assessment Committee and other required teams
  • Collaborate with staff to align on student interventions and support strategies
  • Advocate for students and families, ensuring their rights and needs are addressed
  • Conduct parent interviews to gather social and developmental history for student support planning
  • Assist with enforcement of attendance policies, including excessive absences and truancy processes
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings with school staff, families, and community agencies
  • Conduct home visits as part of intervention and engagement strategies
  • Provide individual and/or group counseling support, including during crisis situations
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant records in accordance with FERPA, HIPAA, and district policies
  • Utilize data to inform interventions and improve student outcomes
  • Collaborate with community agencies and refer families to appropriate external resources
  • Support Medicaid-related administrative documentation and reporting, as applicable
  • Adhere to the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics
