Requirements

  • Valid licensure for the state of work.
  • Michigan: MSW degree.
  • Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) issued by the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA).
  • School Social Work Full Approval and/or Provisional/Professional School Social Worker Certificate issued in the Michigan Online Educator Certification System (MOECS).

Responsibilities

  • Provide group and individual counseling sessions and classroom support to special education students as mandated per student IEPs.
  • Progress monitor IEP goals associated with mandated services and participate in student IEP meetings.
  • Provide group and individual counseling sessions to general education students, and monitor their responses to interventions.
  • Develop and monitor student responses to behavior intervention plans, and provide support and consultation to teachers.
  • Complete psychosocial assessments to aid in determining special education services.
  • Conduct functional behavior assessments and communicate results to team members and parents.
  • Complete risk assessments on students referred for school social work services.
  • Establish relationships with students and parents and participate in school planning.
  • Assist in identifying needed community resources for students and make appropriate referrals.
  • Provide staff consultation on behavioral-emotional-environmental issues affecting student participation in learning.
  • Collaborate with school staff and other personnel to implement strategies promoting student learning.
  • Provide crisis intervention services.
  • Maintain state-required clinical records and submit appropriate documents for statistical reports.
