Requirements
- Valid licensure for the state of work.
- Michigan: MSW degree.
- Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) issued by the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA).
- School Social Work Full Approval and/or Provisional/Professional School Social Worker Certificate issued in the Michigan Online Educator Certification System (MOECS).
Responsibilities
- Provide group and individual counseling sessions and classroom support to special education students as mandated per student IEPs.
- Progress monitor IEP goals associated with mandated services and participate in student IEP meetings.
- Provide group and individual counseling sessions to general education students, and monitor their responses to interventions.
- Develop and monitor student responses to behavior intervention plans, and provide support and consultation to teachers.
- Complete psychosocial assessments to aid in determining special education services.
- Conduct functional behavior assessments and communicate results to team members and parents.
- Complete risk assessments on students referred for school social work services.
- Establish relationships with students and parents and participate in school planning.
- Assist in identifying needed community resources for students and make appropriate referrals.
- Provide staff consultation on behavioral-emotional-environmental issues affecting student participation in learning.
- Collaborate with school staff and other personnel to implement strategies promoting student learning.
- Provide crisis intervention services.
- Maintain state-required clinical records and submit appropriate documents for statistical reports.
