About The Position

The primary goal is to improve the success of students with disabilities in school through service and consultation with students, teachers, parents, administrators, and community agencies. This is a part-time position located offsite at Hartford Public Schools 2 days per week, with a base location at the Special Services Building, 701 South Paw Paw Street, Lawrence, MI 49064. The position begins with the 2026-27 School Year.

Requirements

  • Masters Degree in social work required
  • Michigan approval or eligible for approval as a school social worker and registered with Board of Social Work, Michigan Department of Community Health required
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Knowledge within the following areas: School-based consultation and service, Individualized Education Program (IEP) development and progress monitoring, Special Education evaluation processes, Collaboration with family, school and community agencies

Nice To Haves

  • Previous school social work experience is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide a range of services to students as identified via IEP process.
  • Provide consultation and support to families and school personnel to support student success.
  • Serve a liaison to help coordinate efforts between school, home, community agencies and other service providers.
  • Perform a comprehensive special education evaluation in alignment with State and local policies and procedures.
  • Document and evaluate services on a regular basis.
  • Demonstrate the VBISD principles of Respect, Integrity, Compassion and Excellence.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with school teams, parents, and community agencies and providers.
  • Adhere to Van Buren ISD policies and procedures.
  • Complete assigned responsibilities within agreed upon or established timelines.
  • Perform additional tasks, responsibilities, and duties as assigned by the Special Education Supervisor or Director of Special Education.
