About The Position

The School Resource Deputy (SRD) serves as a vital link between law enforcement and Laramie County Community College (Campus) within Laramie County. Reporting to the School Resource Deputy Corporal (SRD Corporal), the SRD is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure campus environment, building positive relationships with students, staff, and the community. Supporting crime prevention and safety initiatives within the campus.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Two (2) years of experience in law enforcement
  • Must pass a thorough background investigation
  • Must meet Certification requirements by the Wyoming Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
  • Knowledge of Sheriff’s Office policies and procedures, records and reporting systems, rules of evidence, pursuit and search techniques and procedures, use-of-force rules, and criminal and traffic codes.
  • Knowledge of county, state, and federal laws, regulations, statutes, and ordinances.
  • Knowledge of investigative procedures and protocols for observation and memorization of critical details.
  • Knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, practices, methods, and emergency response techniques and equipment.
  • Knowledge of the geography, roads, and landmarks of Laramie County.
  • Knowledge of school policies regarding how to distinguish disciplinary infraction to be handled by school officials versus criminal activity that warrants SRD involvement.
  • Skill in care, maintenance, and safe operation of firearms, impact weapons, chemical agents, and other law enforcement tools and equipment.
  • Skill in remaining alert and reacting quickly and calmly during emergency situations.
  • Skill in exercising diplomacy, fairness, sound judgment, and professionalism in difficult situations.
  • Skill in interpreting laws and regulations, making decisions, and working effectively under stressful conditions.
  • Skill in interacting with individuals from diverse social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Skill in communicating effectively with students, staff, parents, violators, and community members.
  • Skill in recognizing suspicious behavior patterns, mediating difficult situations, and applying effective arrest and control techniques.
  • Skill in investigating and resolving citizen inquiries and complaints.
  • Skill in operating motor vehicles and specialized equipment during emergencies or high-risk situations.
  • Skill in operating personal computers and software applications.
  • Skill in following and communicating verbal and written instructions effectively.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years working in a school or campus setting.
  • Four years or more of law enforcement experience.
  • An interest in continually learning.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, students, and community stakeholders to identify and address campus safety concerns and implement prevention programs.
  • Maintain a visible and positive presence within the campus to promote safety, security, and trust.
  • Participate in campus-related events, presentations, and educational programs that promote positive interactions between law enforcement and students.
  • Serve as a point of contact for school officials, students, and community members seeking assistance, information, or guidance related to campus safety and security matters.
  • Respond to incidents occurring on campus property and take appropriate law enforcement action.
  • Investigate incidents, complaints, or issues occurring on campus while ensuring compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies, local organizations, and community groups to address safety concerns and strengthen community partnerships.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records, reports, and documentation related to campus incidents, activities, and community engagement.
  • Stay informed about current trends, best practices, and legal developments in campus safety, and community policing.
  • Support departmental initiatives and community outreach efforts as directed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned or required.
