Requirements

Master's Degree in school psychology or equivalent.
Advanced coursework preferred in learning disabilities, school psychology, or related field in addition to internship in a school.
Knowledge of Vermont Special Education Requirements.
Valid Vermont Teaching License with School Psychologist Endorsement and special coursework related to the level of students assigned.
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program.
Ability to plan and implement interventions based on department and school objectives and the needs and abilities of assigned students.
Ability to establish and effective working relationships with students, peers, parents, and community.
Ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication.
Technology proficient with Microsoft Windows applications and database software.

Responsibilities

Provides a full range of school psychological services to children ages 3-21, including screening and assessment, designing remedial educational programs, and individual and group counseling with school staff and parents.
Functions as a member of the multi-disciplinary team to determine student eligibility for special services, appropriate programming, and ongoing progress.
Facilitates integration with other special education services, both within and outside the District.
Ensures compliance with District, state, and federal Special Education Regulations and policies.
Provides individual and group services that emphasize improved educational performance and/or conduct for students.
Screens and evaluates referred students by selecting appropriate instruments, administering tests, conducting observations, and writing reports with findings and recommendations.
Participates as a member of the multi-disciplinary team and individualized education program (IEP) committee, contributing evaluation findings and collaborating on the student’s educational plan.
Interprets diagnoses of students for school personnel, other involved professionals, parents, and students.
Provides collaborative consultation and documentation of results, including assisting basic education staff with suggestions and implementation of Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and pre-referral intervention strategies.
Provides recommendations and modifications to assist general education staff in working with special education students in the classroom setting.
Consults with parents, teachers, and other appropriate staff regarding the student’s program and any adaptations or materials needed.
Provides direct services through various methods such as classroom presentations, co-teaching, and in-services to staff/parents.
Maintains appropriate data on students to document current levels of performance and other pertinent information.
Re-evaluates students as appropriate to determine progress and intervention effectiveness.
Establishes and monitors necessary caseloads, procedures, and resources to manage school psychological services.
Works cooperatively to accomplish the goals of the IEP, 504 plan, and EST.
Participates in activities that promote best practice, professional development, and the use of appropriate clinical and educational research.
Adheres to ethical standards and codes of the profession, and to established rules, regulations, and laws governing special education programs.
Supports and implements District policies, regulations, procedures, and administrative directives.
Serves as a resource person for school personnel and parents/guardians concerning behavior concerns, disabilities, and/or learning issues.
Maintains accurate records and prepares written summaries, records, reports, and assignments promptly and efficiently.
May perform other duties as assigned.
