Requirements

  • Knowledge of the principles of performing support services; knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques related to the discipline and the curriculum; knowledge of the materials and supplies in the curriculum and the curriculum and their uses.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and schedule activities; ability to operate technical equipment related to the discipline; ability to maintain records; ability to adjust and perform simple maintenance of technical and scientific equipment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse population.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory and/or clinical equipment used in human performance, biomechanics, or physiology assessment (e.g., motion analysis systems, force measurement devices, physiological monitoring equipment, and related instrumentation).
  • Experience collecting, managing, and analyzing biomechanical and/or physiological data using standard data acquisition and analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python, or comparable software platforms).
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage scheduling systems and equipment logistics.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical equipment and data acquisition systems.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and community partners.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Equivalent to three years of experience providing instructional support services for a related unit or discipline, or in producing materials or supplies or repairing equipment in a discipline related to Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Human Performance, or a closely related field.
  • Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Human Performance, or a closely related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
  • Equivalent to four years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Human Performance, or a closely related field may be substituted for two years of the required experience.
  • Current certification in CPR and First Aid, or the ability to obtain and maintain certification within a specified timeframe.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Human Performance, or a closely related field.
  • NSCA Certified Performance & Sport Scientist (CPSS).
  • NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).
  • ACSM Exercise Physiologist or Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist certification.
  • College-level teaching or laboratory instruction experience.
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in research or community service.
  • Experience in fall risk assessment, gait analysis, stress testing, resistance training program design, and exercise prescription.
  • Experience with health screening, risk classification, and clinical event coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Support the smooth operations of the Lab and maintain equipment in accordance with NSCA, ACSM and OSHA standards; equipment maintenance (including but not limited to calibration, cleaning, programming, troubleshooting with the manufacturer); ensure all equipment is operational and safe.
  • Provide support to faculty and students by ensuring all equipment is in working order and helping to trouble shoot equipment and/or methodological issues related to the use of the lab.
  • Coordinate checkouts with faculty and graduate students, verify that users are properly trained, confirm equipment is in working order before release and upon return, and repair or request replacement of equipment as needed. Supply management - maintain a continuous inventory of all items in the labs, submit order requests for consumable parts as needed, stocking and organization of equipment. Coordinates and oversees equipment delivery, relocation, and disposal following university policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a logical, conflict-free Lab calendar, provides training on its use, and enables users to schedule their own time. Verifies and logs certifications and training completed by lab users as necessitated by their respective role. Coordinate and schedule general lab training; provide lab orientations and safety briefings at least once per semester.
  • Monitor and promptly respond to emails and phone calls from people looking to schedule services/asking questions about the services. Add voice mail announcements and auto-reply messages to email each semester including lab hours.
  • Support paid community testing including exercise tests and supporting students in performing tests/assessments in classes.
  • Provide lab tours for outreach events (e.g. visiting potential students, welcome week events, donors, etc.).
  • Other Duties as Assigned.
