About The Position

The School Nurse provides health care services to students and staff at Pima Butte Elementary. The nurse directs care for people who are injured, need first aid, have chronic illnesses, or require medication supervision. The role also supports school health programs, maintains student health and immunization records, and connects students and parents with community health resources.

Requirements

• Registered graduate nurse.
• State of Arizona Board Certified Registered Nursing License.
• CPR Certification.
• Hearing Testing Certification.
• IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
• Knowledge of federal and state rules, policies, and requirements related to student health.
• Knowledge of nursing policies and practices.
• Knowledge of public health policies, programs, and practices.
• Knowledge of community health resources and programs.
• Skill in performing nursing assessments, monitoring student health conditions, and making appropriate referrals.
• Skill in operating office equipment and computer hardware and software applications.
• Skill in oral and written communication.
• Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

• Additional coursework in public health nursing.
• Bilingual.

Responsibilities

• Direct health care for students and staff who are injured, need first aid, have chronic illnesses, or require supervision of their medications.
• Conduct school physical examinations and vision and hearing screenings.
• Refer students and parents to appropriate community healthcare resources.
• Recommend health-related actions to the principal for individual students.
• Maintain current cumulative health records for all students.
• Complete daily logs and other required reports.
• Maintain immunization records related to illnesses.
• Implement policies for exclusion and readmission.
• Assist in developing school health programs.
• Visit student homes when necessary.
• Conduct parent education and classroom teaching on dental and hygiene programs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
