About The Position

The School Nurse promotes and supports the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being of students in a Catholic school environment. Working collaboratively with administrators, faculty, staff, parents, and healthcare providers, the School Nurse provides direct healthcare services, health education, emergency care, and preventive health support to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment. The School Nurse serves as a compassionate caregiver while supporting the mission and values of Catholic education.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license required
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required
  • Knowledge of child development, health assessment, and emergency response procedures.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and basic computer applications.
  • Commitment to supporting the mission and values of Catholic education.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Previous pediatric, school nursing, community health, or related nursing experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assess, treat, and document student illnesses and injuries occurring during the school day.
  • Administer medications and medical treatments in accordance with physician orders, school policies, and state regulations.
  • Monitor and manage student health conditions, including allergies, asthma, diabetes, seizures, and other chronic health concerns.
  • Develop, maintain, and implement Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs) and Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) as needed.
  • Provide first aid and emergency care for students, staff, and visitors when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student health records.
  • Monitor immunization compliance and maintain required health documentation.
  • Conduct health screenings as required by state and diocesan guidelines, including vision, hearing, and other mandated screenings.
  • Identify health concerns that may impact student learning and communicate appropriately with parents and school personnel.
  • Promote disease prevention and infection control practices throughout the school community.
  • Monitor communicable illnesses and implement appropriate health protocols.
