About The Position

The School Nurse supports student success by providing health care through assessment, intervention, and follow-up for all children in the school setting. The role addresses students’ physical, mental, and social health needs and supports their achievement in the learning process. iHOPE serves students with complex needs, including Traumatic Brain Injury, Acquired Brain Injury, and other brain-based disorders, through an integrated, collaborative, research-based educational and therapeutic model.

Requirements

Valid New York State RN license.
Current CPR certification.
Strong organizational and communication skills.

Clinical and/or pediatric experience as a Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities

Protect and maintain students’ health by providing professional nursing services in accordance with nursing standards and New York State licensing requirements.
Provide New York State-mandated and annual screenings, including vision, hearing, height, weight, and scoliosis screenings.
Facilitate New York State-mandated immunization and communicable disease control requirements.
Identify and assess students’ health needs, implement services, and evaluate plans of care that affect learning, achievement, or safety.
Participate as a member of the school’s multidisciplinary team, interpret medical data, and collect medical reports or prescriptions.
Communicate student health concerns to parents or guardians.
Identify and report school building safety or environmental issues that affect student or staff health to administration.
Document health services in accordance with the New York State Nurse Practice Act.
Maintain current health data for each student through periodic review and documentation of individual electronic and paper health records.
Complete student and staff insurance and accident reports.
Initiate and document health surveillance programs as needed, and record, compile, and report aggregate student health information as required by the New York State Department of Health.
Perform other duties as assigned.
