About The Position

Archway Programs is a nonprofit organization in New Jersey, providing diverse services to individuals of all ages with disabilities. This is a great opportunity for a Registered Nurse (RN) to transition into School Health. The School Nurse establishes and maintains a comprehensive school health program, while participating in the development of nursing program goals, plans, and decisions in consultation with school administration and the contracted school physician. They are responsible to service children with special needs during the regular ten month school year, and during the extended school year in July and August.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 1 year of nursing experience required.
  • CPR Certification required.
  • New Jersey Registered Nurse License required.

Nice To Haves

  • NJ DOE School Nurse Certification preferred (RN's without certification encouraged to apply: must actively pursue certification).

Responsibilities

  • Encourages individuals as well as groups in utilizing art as a means of developing self- expression, fine motor skills, cognitive and social development
  • Introduces art media and techniques allowing for decision making, sensory experimentation and integration
  • Develops effective classroom management system
  • Organizes classroom environment/lessons effectively to meet student’s needs
  • Utilizes appropriate art methods/materials to help student succeed
  • Orders/utilizes art supplies and equipment
  • Organizes/utilizes art center and displays student work
  • Maintains progress reports to evaluate student growth, behavior and needs
  • Encourages parent/teacher/student relationships
  • Maintains/turns in lesson plans weekly to the principal
  • Controls classroom in a structured/non-authoritarian way
  • Disciplines students while encouraging positive self-growth rather than punishment
  • Attends yearly Primary Restraint Technique (PRT) training.
  • Responsible for any miscellaneous duties as assigned
