About The Position

GEO Prep Academy of Baton Rouge (Sherwood campus) is a tuition-free, public charter school that serves students in grades 3-8. Our dedicated faculty and staff are committed to providing an outstanding education for students each day as they transition from elementary to middle school to high school and COLLEGE. Our curriculum and teaching methods are designed using Core Knowledge in K-8 and a blended learning model in elementary school through high school. We are a TAP school!

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher with at least 24 credit hours in content area
  • Current certification as an LPN or RN
  • Working knowledge of federal, state and local laws and regulations affecting school health services
  • Applicable experience, preferable in a school environment

Responsibilities

  • Provide first aid and order supplies.
  • Obtain required paperwork to administer medications, teaching parents, students, and staff about medication administration and monitoring progress.
  • Conduct health assessments, vision and hearing tests for Special Education IEPs and 504 plans, determining if the child's health affects their ability to learn, determining if the child qualifies for the Other Health Impaired category, and providing health teaching to teachers in regards to the disability.
  • Write emergency care plans for students with certain health issues and educate teachers and staff regarding these students using PowerSchool.
  • Obtain medical documentation regarding allergies, particularly food allergies, and make everyone, including cafeteria staff, aware of this.
  • Assess the need for Specialized Physical Health Care Procedures, train staff, obtain MD orders, and facilitate the least restrictive environment. Write the Individualized Health Care Plan for each student's need.
  • Verify compliance with state immunization requirements and report the list to the Department of Health and Hospitals.
  • Work with students and families to provide the best education for the student, considering health needs and problem-solving issues. This includes mental health care and basic health care counseling.
  • Manage school infection control and communicable disease (CD) management and reporting.
  • Provide health education on a macro level to the school or district, including beginning of the school year in-service for all staff concerning Allergy Awareness and Blood Borne pathogen control.
