About The Position

The primary role of the Flower Mound School Nurse is to support students’ health and wellbeing for students to fully participate in active school life. The School Nurse is a caring, compassionate, experienced professional who loves taking care of children and prioritizes communication and engagement. The position requires administrative work as well as one-on-one time with students. This includes responding to any medical concerns at school, performing routine screenings, maintaining records, and certifying all campus Faculty/Staff in CPR/AED and First Aid.

Requirements

  • Current RN or LVN license
  • Previous medical experience
  • Certified by the state of Texas to perform required student screenings (may be completed after accepting position)

Nice To Haves

  • Certified American Heart Association CPR/First Aid Instructor (may be completed after accepting position)

Responsibilities

  • Identify and document students with health needs. Distribute class information to each coach/teacher per grade level using Excel.
  • Manage Student and Faculty Medical needs, including keeping medications "in date" and locked, maintaining Medication Administration Permission forms, maintaining Medical Logs, maintaining Faculty/Staff Emergency Information, familiarizing self with all student medications, securing FARE (Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Emergency) Care Plan, securing self-carry authorization for inhalers and any other medication carried by students, securing diabetes care plans as needed, maintaining Incident Reports, communicating with Headmaster regarding communicable epidemics and recommending class/school closings if related absences exceed 40%, using Head Injury Protocol provided by CDC for any head injury that may be subject to concussion, and assuring that AEDs are properly maintained.
  • Communicate school policy regarding the medical needs of the CDA students and staff in accordance with state and federal laws.
  • Communicate health policies and forms to Flower Mound Campus families.
  • Ensure that Tuesday/Thursday Front Office Manager and Aide(s) are equipped to meet daily student health needs when the School Nurse is not present.
  • Ensure that all Flower Mound Campus employees are CPR, AED and First Aid Certified by providing training and ensuring renewal biannually.
  • Assure coaches and faculty taking students off campus are CPR/AED and First Aid certified.
  • Enter names of students completing CPR/AED/First Aid course into AHA Instructor site.
  • Maintain Excel spreadsheet with dates of all employees' certifications and notify updates as needed.
  • Provide medical expertise as a member of the Crisis Management Team.
  • Maintain in Nurse’s Aide current immunization records as required by the Texas Minimum State Vaccine Requirements for Students in grades K-12 and Texas Minimum State Vaccine Requirements for Child-Care Facilities for PreK.
  • Import Student information into Nurse’s Aide annually in May. New student immunization records must be entered manually. Immunization records for new students are requested as part of the application process. Students will not attend class until complete records are turned in. Per Texas State law this also applies to returning students on the first day of class.
  • Send reminders, update and/or follow-up with non-compliant students and exemptions, and send reminders for 7th-grade students needing additional immunizations.
  • Ensure that all student physical medical files are audit ready.
  • Prepare and submit Annual Immunization Report to Texas Department of Health.
  • Administer state required screenings (Vision, Hearing, Scoliosis and Acanthosis Negricans) and communicate with parents appropriately.
  • Calibrate the CDA audiometer annually.
  • Prepare and submit the Annual Screening Report to the Texas Department of Health.
  • Communicate Authorized Absence requests to the Headmaster’s designee.
  • Stay within budget.
