About The Position

The school nurse provides health care to students and staff, performs health screenings and coordinates referrals to the appropriate healthcare provider. The school nurse serves as the liaison between school personnel, family, community, and healthcare providers, to advocate for health care and a healthy school environment.

Requirements

  • Must meet the certification requirements for School Nurse established by the State of Delaware Department of Education, this includes a B.S., R.N.
  • Satisfactory criminal background check prior to being placed on payroll.
  • Satisfactory child protection registry check.
  • Mandatory direct deposit of pay.
  • Documentation of Mantoux skin test results for entrance to school system.

Responsibilities

  • Performs general nursing work related to the role of School Nurse as a substitute including but not limited to:
  • Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on school medical matters.
  • Assumes authority for the care of a student, staff member, or visitor, who has suffered injury or emergency illness.
  • Appraises and identifies general health needs of students and school personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned that pertain to nursing, health, or medical matters as a substitute.
