About The Position

This position is responsible for modifying or reducing health-related barriers to learning of individual students and by promoting an optimal level of wellness for students and staff.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing/ Missouri registered professional nurse license
  • Current certification in CPR/AED
  • At least two (2) years’ of experience
  • Read, comprehend, and produce written and oral instructions, correspondence, and memos
  • Communicate one-on-one and in small groups
  • Present information effectively and respond to questions
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrate excellent listening skills
  • Add, subtract multiply and divide using units of American money, weight, volume and distance
  • Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations
  • Solve a variety of problems in many different situations
  • Interpret instructions presented in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Demonstrate executive functions such as planning, organizing, remembering, and regulating information and behavior as they pertain to student performance and achievement
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with students and colleagues
  • Perform multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Safeguard medications and confidential medical information
  • Identify needs and abilities of individual children and adapt methods accordingly
  • Perform basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use
  • Frequently stand, stoop, bend and kneel
  • Read handwritten or printed material
  • Frequently lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
  • Grasp, hold, and demonstrate finger dexterity
  • Reach and raise arms above shoulders and head
  • Must have both close and distance vision
  • Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position

Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility for appropriate assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation, management, and/or referral activities.
  • Serves as the direct link between physicians, families, and community agencies to assure access and continuity of health care of students.
  • Provides relevant instruction, counseling, and guidance to students, parents, staff, and others concerning health-related issues.
  • Upholds professional standards, the state Nurse Practice Act, and other state and local statutes and regulations applicable to school nursing practice.
  • Performs other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public School District.
