About The Position

This is routing work involving the responsibility for the efficient, economic and palatable preparation and cooking of a variety of foods. Incumbents work under the direct supervision of a Cook Manager and may supervise Food Service Helpers.

Requirements

  • Graduation from High School, GED or Equivalency Diploma and one year of full-time experience in quantity food preparation
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Verifiable part-time experience will be pro-rated to meet full-time experience requirements
  • Proof of education must be presented at time of appointment

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and cooks a variety of foods
  • Uses approved scientific methods of preparation and quantity recipes
  • Cooks meats and vegetables
  • Prepares soups and broths
  • Makes salads, sandwiches, desserts, and a variety of other foods
  • When directed to do so, plans menus, requisitions food and performs other managerial duties
  • May on occasion work at steam table
  • Assists in the serving of meals
  • May assist in cleaning activities
  • May assist the Cook Manager in maintaining simple records of food and supplies that are received and used
  • Performs related duties as required
