About The Position

This vacancy is for the 2026-2027 School Year School Library Assistant at Linden Grove Middle School. The position is for a 10-month, full-time role with a pay rate of $17.82 - $22.28 for the 2025-2026 School Year. The School Library Assistant performs a variety of clerical functions in the school library, working with and independently of the librarian. Responsibilities include checking books in and out, maintaining student records, generating reports, and preparing new materials for circulation. The role also involves shelving books, maintaining inventory, performing simple mending, training volunteers, and assisting staff and students in locating materials. The assistant will help maintain an attractive learning environment and adhere to district procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Accredited Equivalency.
  • Evidence of keyboarding and computer proficiency through skills testing.
  • Evidence of computer skills necessary to assist students, staff, and parents.
  • Exhibits knowledge of the Dewey Decimal system.
  • Ability to adapt to changing technology.
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal skills/ability to relate with students, staff and parents.
  • Keyboarding and computer proficiency.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize clerical work in the library.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work independently in the library, following building and Library Services procedures.
  • Evidence of a desirable work record (low absenteeism, good job performance, flexibility).

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of overall library procedures.
  • Knowledge of current software programs.
  • Willingness and capable of learning and growing in the position.
  • Ability to produce schedules, sign-ups, diagrams, etc. as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Use the KPS library automation system to circulate books.
  • Maintain student records.
  • Generate reports.
  • Generate and distribute overdue notices.
  • Receive and maintain records of payments for lost books.
  • Receive new materials and prepare them for circulation.
  • Shelve returned books in the order prescribed.
  • Maintain inventory of materials.
  • Perform simple mending and maintenance of materials.
  • Train and oversee work of parent volunteers and/or student workers.
  • Assist staff and students in locating materials.
  • Assist in maintaining an attractive learning environment and a positive learning climate.
  • Adhere to procedures outlined by the district Library Services Office.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
