About The Position

The Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) Coach supports schools in implementing district special education practices and strengthening the delivery of specially designed instruction aligned to students’ IEPs. This role provides targeted, job-embedded support across multiple schools, focusing on improving instructional practices, monitoring fidelity, and building sustainable capacity to meet the needs of students with disabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Preferably in Special Education
  • Must hold or be eligible for a valid and clear teaching certificate in one or more areas of Special Education
  • Minimum of three years successful classroom teaching experience within the last six years required
  • Must have professional knowledge and proven use of effective teaching strategies and professional knowledge of curriculum-based assessments
  • Strong desire to work with at-risk students and developing teachers
  • Ability to communicate with adults and student learners at all ability levels
  • High technological skill level required
  • Demonstrated ability to work with personal and confidential information
  • Must be able to successfully manage multiple tasks, projects and responsibilities
  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills in rendering solutions to various issues
  • Must be able to collaborate effectively with District and school personnel, the general public, and work with diverse groups of people
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing

Responsibilities

  • Assists teachers and school teams with the implementation of the state standards, with a focus on specially designed instruction
  • Works with teachers and school teams to improve classroom climate through the implementation of effective instructional practices and positive behavior support methods
  • Conducts classroom learning walks to assess needs for targeted modeling, demonstration, and consultation with teachers and school teams, to guide support of instructional planning, delivery, and monitoring
  • Supports schools in the use of data to determine the most effective student supports and programming
  • Analyzes student test data and advises teachers and appropriate staff of trends, outcomes, needs and effective practices
  • Recommends changes to current practices, approaches, methods, strategies, and assessments
  • Demonstrates, monitors, and evaluates the application of effective teaching strategies
  • Recommends best practices to achieve the desired student learning outcomes
  • Collaborates with district and school level stakeholders, as appropriate, to address school and student needs
  • Coordinates and conducts site-based professional learning activities
  • Informs faculty of professional development opportunities
  • Assists with development of instructional resources and guidance documents
  • Participates in professional learning activities
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator
