About The Position

The Wake County Public Health School Health Program provides school health services to 199 Wake County Public Schools. Each school nurse serves two schools, which may include preschool, elementary, middle, and/or high schools. Nurses spend two days per week at one school and three days per week at the other, working eight-hour days Monday through Friday and attending their assigned schools during regular school hours. This is a 10-month, part-time (0.833 FTE), exempt salaried position. The work period runs from August 16 through June 15, with June 16 through August 15 off. The position is paid bi-monthly, and the posted salary range is prorated for the 10-month schedule. It is not eligible for overtime. Vacancies are in Morrisville, North Raleigh, and Central Raleigh West; applicants should indicate which positions they are interested in. The position is based at the Public Health Building in Raleigh, North Carolina, with a hybrid work arrangement based on public school bell schedules. The School Health Nurse provides nursing assessments and develops and implements health care plans; trains, delegates tasks to, and supervises unlicensed assistive personnel; consults with school staff about student health issues; and coordinates care for students with chronic health conditions. The nurse also conducts vision rescreening and follow-up, participates in IEP/504 meetings for students with identified medical needs at school, identifies students who may benefit from School Health Services, and collaborates with school staff, physicians, families, and community partners to identify and secure services.
