About The Position

This position is assigned to a special education center and provides a variety of direct care services to Fairfax County Public School (FCPS) students with complex medical conditions and moderate to severe intellectual disabilities based on nursing assessment. Develops plans of care and evaluates intervention effectiveness in the classroom setting; identifies health teaching needs and provides health education to students, families, and staff. Provides care to ill or injured students according to FCPS/FCHD protocol, administers medications approved by physician’s orders, and completes vision and hearing screenings as required. This position is located at 6564 Loisdale Court, Springfield, VA. This position includes a sign-on bonus for fully qualified new county employees in the amount of $10,000.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education with a bachelor's degree in Nursing.
  • One-year post-licensure nursing experience.
  • Possession of current license or a multistate licensure privilege to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • CPR certification (required within 30 days).
  • AED certification (required within 30 days).
  • Completion of a criminal background check, Child Protective Services Registry check, driving record check, tuberculosis (TB) test, and sanction screenings.
  • High level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Professionalism in dealing with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities to communicate effectively and clearly with a diverse population.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative connections with internal and external partners.
  • Ability to work independently and on interdisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and other software applications.
  • Ability to drive a motor vehicle.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience providing health services to school aged children in ethnically diverse populations.
  • Experience managing complex medical conditions in pediatrics.
  • Experience conducting epidemiological investigations of communicable disease cases and outbreaks.
  • At least one year of supervisory experience or has demonstrated work experience monitoring and directing the work of others.
  • Bilingual in English and another language.
