About The Position

This is an intermediate level professional nursing work in providing primary, preventive, and rehabilitative care to individuals and families in Child Health. Employee independently demonstrates and implements techniques of nursing care and counsels for promotion of health and prevention of disease through outreach the clinical setting, serving as team leader for a sub-group within a larger project and/or serving as charge nurses in clinics. Employee will be expected to assist in data collection and review in any project that they are associated with.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing and one year of professional nursing experience.
  • A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the N.C. Board of Nursing.
  • Adequate computer skills to allow communication, patient record documentation, and accessing of information
  • Must have or obtain and maintain a valid North Carolina driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Background check and negative drug test are required.

Nice To Haves

  • Individuals employed in a local Health Department without a B.S. Degree which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation or a Master’s in Public Health, will be required to complete an introductory course in principles and practices of public health nursing sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services- Division of Public Health within one year of employment as a condition of continued employment in accordance with Health Services Commission Rule, 10 NCAC 46.0301.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the patient’s health status and needs.
  • Assist in providing services to maintain or improve the patient’s health.
  • Responsible for referral follow-up.
  • Patient education and counseling are important components of service delivery.
  • Must be aware of health trends and practices relevant to the population of patients served.
  • Work is reviewed periodically for adherence to established public health nursing standards by a nurse supervisor through written reports and oral conferences.
  • Must represent the Health Department in a positive and professional manner.
  • Must demonstrate a pleasant, friendly, helpful, courteous, and approachable demeanor with staff, clients, and outside agencies at all times.
  • This position may require the nurse to provide contraception methods subject to appropriate training and staffing cross-coverage needs.
  • Employee is subject to be called upon anytime to help the agency respond to a public health emergency which may include, but is not limited to, outbreak investigations, staffing mass dispensing or immunization clinics, providing disaster relief, or other incidents (man-made or natural and intentional or non-intentional) as they arise, or any public health response requested by the Health Director.
