About The Position

Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a School Health Assistant. As a School Health Assistant at MercyOne, you will oversee workflow of day-to-day activities of the school health office. Performs services as assigned by the School Nurse-RN and in accordance with written policy. School health assistant responsibilities will vary according to the school health program. Adheres to MercyOne's performance expectations and performs all defined services and other related duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values of MercyOne.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent (GED).
  • Prior experience working with and engaging children.
  • BLS.
  • Mandatory Reporter training.
  • First Aid.
  • Must complete annual Iowa Department of Education’s requirements on Medication Administration.
  • Valid Iowa Driver’s License and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).
  • High language, intermediate math, high reasoning ability.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people.
  • Ability to present a positive image.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous work experience in a medical environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures health office is well-maintained and functional
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for students needing health assistance and maintains good working relationships with students, parents, staff members, and administration.
  • Reviews completed forms and documents students health information according to applicable school and health policies.
  • Develops and maintains a recordkeeping system for necessary files to ensure confidentiality and authorized access to accurate and updated records, includes updating electronic health records (i.e. Student Health Records, Immunization Records, Class/Student Lists).
  • Provides care to students.
  • Assists the school nurse.
  • Based on principles of growth and development, provides care appropriate to the age related needs of the patients served on his/her assigned unit
  • Adheres to all safety, infection control and colleague health policies and procedures.
