About The Position

This position is responsible for assisting with the health needs of students under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The School Health Assistant will perform basic health care tasks, maintain health records, and ensure a safe and healthy school environment. This role requires a compassionate individual with strong communication and organizational skills.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Current CPR and First Aid certification.
Experience in a healthcare setting or with children is preferred.
Ability to administer basic first aid and medications.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Basic computer proficiency.
Must be able to complete a three (3) year work history including periods of unemployment, schooling and volunteer work on the application.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience as a school health assistant or in a similar role.
Knowledge of common childhood illnesses and conditions.
Bilingual abilities (English/Spanish).

Responsibilities

Provide basic first aid and emergency care to students.
Administer medications to students as prescribed by a physician, following school policy.
Monitor students with chronic health conditions and report any changes to the supervising nurse.
Maintain accurate and confidential student health records.
Assist with health screenings, such as vision and hearing tests.
Educate students and staff on basic health and hygiene practices.
Ensure the school health office is clean, organized, and well-stocked.
Communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, and healthcare providers.
Adhere to all school district policies and procedures regarding student health and safety.
