About The Position

To assist the food service director and supervisor in monitoring and training food service employees so that high quality, nutritious, appealing food is prepared and served in a clean, sanitary, and pleasant environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in school food service management or related field.
  • Manager of a financially sound, efficient food service unit receiving successful reviews, inspections, and evaluations.
  • Strong computer, basic mathematical and bookkeeping skills.
  • Able to stand and walk most of the day, reach, bend, and safely move items.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Occasionally make on-site visits to school food service units, monitoring production, merchandising, ordering, inventory control, food safety, and miscellaneous aspects of school food service operations.
  • Maintains documentation of visits and reports observations and plans training needs with the food service supervisor and director.
  • Utilize the designated training kitchen along with experience, knowledge and the proper resources to train new and current staff while operating a fully functional kitchen.
  • Operate an efficient, sanitary and financially sound food production operation, serving children health, nutritious meals.
  • Assists with reviews of breakfast, lunch and after school snack programs.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state and local policies and regulations.
  • Revisits school food service units following DHEC inspections if needed.
  • Substitutes in the absence of the School Food Service Manager or extended absence of the Assistant Manager.
  • Assist with developing menus and production records to distribute to all schools
  • Monitors food supply, checking for supplier’s adherence to specifications and accurate nutritional label information.
  • Assists with in-service and training of cafeteria personnel and training for new employees and substitutes as needed.
  • Knows how all equipment is operated, cleaned, and serviced and provides training if needed.
  • Keeps abreast of changes and upgrades in all food service software and trains other food service employees and instructs on day-to-day computer operations.
  • Assists with planning and set-up of all meetings associated with food service.
  • Promotes nutrition education and healthy eating habits.
  • Maintains membership in and certification with the School Nutrition Association.
  • Attends professional staff development meetings as needed and directed by the Food Service Director.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
