About The Position

Holy Spirit Catholic School is seeking a full-time custodian to work after school hours. The custodian will be responsible for cleaning and maintaining the school building, including classrooms, restrooms, halls, offices, and an outside modular building. This role involves daily cleaning, sanitizing, waste disposal, and minor maintenance tasks. The custodian must maintain confidentiality and respect towards children, families, faculty, and staff, and demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, aligning with the school's goals and mission. The job is scheduled after school hours, typically from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. This position is classified as Non-Exempt (Hourly) and reports to the Business Administrator. The salary range is $25.00–$30.00 per hour, commensurate with education and experience. Benefits are provided according to Diocesan policy.

Requirements

  • Compliance with BCI/FBI background checks and the completion of the Protecting God’s Children program.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate.
  • Frequent movement about the school building to complete essential job responsibilities.
  • Ability to be a team player and have harmonious relationship skills when dealing with co-workers and other parish employees, families, and the general public.
  • Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Previous custodian experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises other school custodial staff.
  • Perform routine cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting classrooms, hallways, offices, and common areas.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, ensuring supplies are stocked.
  • Empty trash and recycling bins throughout the building.
  • Maintain floors (including periodic deeper cleaning as needed).
  • Assist with setup and breakdown for school events, liturgies, and activities.
  • Monitor and report maintenance or safety concerns to the business administrator.
  • Perform minor maintenance tasks as needed (e.g., replacing light bulbs, basic repairs).
  • Regular attendance and punctuality is essential for this job.
  • Complies with federal, state and local safety laws.
  • Maintains a neat and safe work area.
  • Passes any competencies for this position.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
