About The Position

ABM is seeking a reliable and experienced School Custodian to perform general cleaning duties in designated areas of a K-12 school, college, or university campus. The role may suit someone entering or returning to the workforce with limited experience and education; no experience is required, and on-the-job training is provided.

The position involves cleaning and maintaining indoor areas such as classrooms, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, offices, and stairways, as well as performing incidental seasonal outdoor tasks. The cleaner must follow procedures for chemical cleaners and power equipment and comply with safety, security, compliance, and quality standards established by ABM, its clients, and regulatory authorities.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• No experience is required; on-the-job training is provided.
• No high school diploma, GED, or college degree is required.

Nice To Haves

• Prior customer service experience.
• One year of prior similar work experience.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain assigned areas, which may include classrooms, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, offices, and stairways.
• Sweep, remove debris, clean spills, and mop floors in designated areas.
• Check trash receptacles regularly and empty them as needed.
• Follow procedures for using chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
• Notify the lead cleaner or manager about the need for minor or major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
• Establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with clients, coworkers, shift coordinators, supervisors, and managers.
• Collect, consolidate, and separate recycling into proper receptacles.
• Clean and dust desks, chairs, tables, furniture, fixtures, doors, sills, floors, ceilings, and walls.
• Polish hard surfaces such as woodwork and stainless steel.
• Wipe and clean tabletops, chairs, and equipment in food areas.
• Move cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates, and equipment to clean areas, manually or using hand trucks.
• Clean interior partition glass, windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
• Sweep walks, rake leaves, cut grass, remove snow, or perform other incidental seasonal tasks.
• Maintain restroom cleanliness, including cleaning and polishing as needed.
• Comply with safety, security, compliance, and quality standards and procedures established by the company, clients, and regulatory authorities.
