About The Position

Works under the general supervision of assigned supervisor in conjunction with a School Crossing Guard Coordinator to safely cross children/pedestrians on streets en route to and from school. Assists with traffic only where children/pedestrians are involved.

Requirements

• Ability to use a stop sign and whistle.
• Ability to engage and disengage flashing school zone lights.

Responsibilities

• Ensures all traffic is at a complete stop before children/pedestrians can enter the crosswalk or intersection.
• Enters the street before others to gain control of oncoming traffic by using a stop sign and whistle.
• Looks in the direction of the children/pedestrians and motions them to proceed into the crosswalk after control of the traffic is maintained.
• Engages and disengages flashing school zone lights.
