About The Position

This is a part-time position, assisting with school bus and student movement at school entrances or intersections. The role involves supervising children crossing streets and/or intersections, assisting them in entering and leaving school property, and safely interrupting the flow of traffic. Additionally, the position requires reporting observed violations of law, attending training sessions on traffic control, and performing other related duties as assigned, which may include modified schedules or temporary re-assignment during declared emergencies.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Have never been convicted of a felony or any crime involving moral turpitude and undergo a background check as would fulltime MCSO candidates.
  • Possess normal visual perception in both eyes.
  • Possess normal hearing range.
  • Be free of any infirmities that would prevent standing or walking at least two hours per day.
  • Demonstrate freedom of motion of upper extremities to execute arm and hand traffic signals.

Responsibilities

  • Abide by the "Law Enforcement Code of Ethics".
  • Supervise children crossing streets and/or intersections at his/her assigned post before and after school hours.
  • Assist children in entering and leaving school property or crossing other assigned intersections, by safely entering the road and interrupting the flow of traffic.
  • Report to his/her supervisor violations of law which he/she observes.
  • Attend preliminary and refresher training sessions on traffic control hand signals and proper methods for interrupting traffic flow, as assigned by the Division Commander.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned, including modified schedule or temporary re-assignment during declared emergency or activations, as determined by the Sheriff.
