About The Position

Under the direction of the school principal, the school counselor will provide related services to students, teachers, administrators, parents, and the community, as appropriate. Services will include classroom lessons, individual and small group counseling concerning social emotional and behavioral problems, and crisis support.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in School Counseling or related field
• Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Counseling

Responsibilities

• Implements the philosophy, goals, objectives, and policies of CMP’s Student Services Department and the American School Counselor Association (ASCA).
• Engages in professional development.
• Advocates for student success and for programs that improve student outcomes.
• Applies legal and ethical principles of the school counseling profession and follows network policies and practices.
• Provides direct Tier 1 services, such as large group classroom instruction.
• Provides indirect Tier 1 services, such as resources and referrals, consultative services, adult psychoeducation and training, collaboration, and serves on committees that improve whole school wellness.
• Uses data to identify barriers to student achievement, and creates and implements interventions to address barriers.
• Provides Tier 2 and Tier 3 services, such as small group counseling services, individual counseling services, individual student planning, and crisis response and postvention.
• Regularly provides information to the community regarding community resources.
• Serves as an integral member of committees related to social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health and wellness, such as Suicide Prevention Crisis Teams, Behavioral Therapy Assessment Teams, and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Teams.
