About The Position

California Montessori Project (CMP) is a public charter school network in the greater Sacramento area offering a TK-8 Montessori program. CMP serves over 3,000 students across seven campuses and collaborates with four school districts. CMP supports its teachers in obtaining both Montessori certification and a California state credential. The school network benefits from stable leadership and is committed to equity and student success through frameworks like Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). The Mission of the California Montessori Project is to provide a quality, tuition-free, TK-8, Montessori education that challenges our students to reach their full potential. Under the direction of the school principal, the school counselor will provide services to students, teachers, administrators, parents, and the community. These services include classroom lessons, individual and small group counseling for social-emotional and behavioral issues, and crisis support.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in School Counseling or related field
  • Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Counseling
  • Embodying the ASCA School Counselor Professional Standards & Competencies, Mindsets, and Behaviors, including: Apply developmental, learning, counseling and education theories (B-PF-1)
  • Design and implement instruction aligned to the ASCA Student Standards (B-SS-1)
  • Identify achievement gaps and factors contributing to those gaps (B-PA-2)

Responsibilities

  • Implements the philosophy, goals, objectives, and policies of CMP’s Student Services Department and the American School Counselor Association (ASCA).
  • Engages in professional development.
  • Advocates for student success and for programs that improve student outcomes.
  • Applies legal and ethical principles of the school counseling profession and follows network policies and practices.
  • Provides direct Tier 1 services, such as large group classroom instruction.
  • Provides indirect Tier 1 services, such as resources and referrals, consultative services, adult psychoeducation and training, collaboration, and serves on committees that improve whole school wellness.
  • Uses data to identify barriers to student achievement, and creates and implements interventions to address barriers.
  • Provides Tier 2 and Tier 3 services, such as small group counseling services, individual counseling services, individual student planning, and crisis response and postvention.
  • Regularly provides information to the community regarding community resources.
  • Serves as an integral member of committees related to social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health and wellness, such as Suicide Prevention Crisis Teams, Behavioral Therapy Assessment Teams, and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Teams.
