About The Position

Bright Star Schools is seeking a School Counselor to serve as a designated advocate for students and their families. This role supports students through academics and social-emotional learning, facilitating communication between students, teachers, administrators, and parents. The Counselor will be involved in all student and family-facing functions on campus, ensuring the success of assigned students. The position is full-time, exempt, and an 11-month role.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree and a Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Counseling
  • An understanding of early childhood education, or child and adolescent development is imperative
  • Strong oral and written communication skills including advocacy skills
  • Ability to connect and build relationships with students and their families
  • Ability to facilitate connections with students and faculty, and to work with tracking systems (organizational skills required)
  • Must be able to analyze written, spoken, visual, and other sensory stimuli
  • Must have ability to understand and analyze written and spoken English
  • Must be able to cope effectively with stressful situations and time constraints
  • Must be able to make sound judgments based on available information
  • Must be able to engage in frequent student/parent/coworker contact
  • Must be able to remain calm in emergency situations
  • Must be able to perform effectively under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Must be able to maintain accuracy in tasks requiring meticulous attention to detail
  • Must have flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work demands

  • Familiarity with facilitating Social Emotional Curriculum

Responsibilities

  • Implement the ASCA National Model and counseling best practices.
  • Build strong relationships with students through mentoring, academic counseling, and social-emotional support.
  • Lead College and Career Readiness programming and related student supports.
  • Facilitate restorative justice practices within and beyond the classroom.
  • Support school culture by co-facilitating morning meetings, assemblies, student activities, and chaperoning events.
  • Provide student and family services, including parent education sessions, engagement events, community resources, referrals, and targeted family outreach.
  • Consult and collaborate with teachers and other school staff based on student needs.
  • Provide classroom push-in for academic and behavioral support as needed.
  • Participate in MTSS.
  • Provide social-emotional guidance and support.
  • Appropriately identify student's social and emotional needs.
  • Provide resources and referrals as necessary.
  • Provide necessary interventions, including individual and small-group and classroom lessons/counseling.
  • Serve as a Parent Liaison.
  • Provide case management for families based on need by offering resources and support.
  • Conduct home visits as needed to ensure home and school partnerships.
  • Coordinate Parent Group activities.
  • Develop Parent Education curriculum.
  • Coordinate Student Activities.
  • Supervise students.
  • Follow Bright Star Schools’ toileting policies and protocols if working with TK and Kinder students.
