About The Position

Utica Academy of Science Charter School – Elementary School is seeking a compassionate, dynamic, and student-centered professional for an immediate opening as a School Counselor serving students in Grades K–5. The ideal candidate is passionate about supporting the social, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs of elementary school students and will find an excellent environment for both new and experienced staff members. New York State School Counselor Certification is required.

Requirements

• New York State School Counselor Certification
• Bachelor’s degree in Counseling or a related field
• Experience working with elementary-age children
• Experience working with diverse student populations or in an urban school setting is a plus
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Fingerprint clearance through the New York State Education Department

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree preferred

Responsibilities

• Support K–5 students who may be experiencing emotional, behavioral, family, social, or academic challenges.
• Provide individual and small-group counseling as appropriate.
• Help students develop healthy coping strategies, conflict-resolution skills, and positive relationships.
• Collaborate closely with teachers, administrators, families, and community partners to support student success.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with students, families, school staff, and community members.
• Assist in resolving student conflicts and addressing social-emotional concerns.
• Work collaboratively with school staff to identify student needs and appropriate interventions.
• Use student data and other relevant information to help guide counseling supports and interventions.
• Demonstrate flexibility, professionalism, accountability, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
• Maintain a strong belief that all students can succeed.
