About The Position

The Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic schools serve more than 40,000 students in 150+ elementary and high schools in Cook and Lake counties. It is one of the largest private school systems in the United States. Its schools have received 96 Blue Ribbon awards from the U.S. Department of Education over the past 10 years. This role will assist students in a PreK-8 school setting as an advocate for the development of the whole child. The position involves providing direct services to students in areas such as child and adolescent development, education strategies, self-management, and social interaction skills to help students achieve success in school. Crisis management for students and faculty, and support for students in mentally processing challenges and adjustments through goal setting and action planning are key components. The role also requires communication and collaboration with parents, school personnel, and the principal, as well as maintaining comprehensive, school-wide preventative needs programming and appropriate record-keeping.

Requirements

  • Illinois State License as a Counselor or School Social Work

Responsibilities

  • Assist students in a PreK-8 school setting as an advocate for the development of the whole child.
  • Provide direct services to students in the areas of child and adolescent development, education strategies, self-management, and social interaction skills to help students in achieving success in school.
  • Provide crisis management to students and faculty.
  • Support students in mentally processing their challenges and/or adjustments to school through goal setting and action planning.
  • Contact and stay connected to parents to assist them in the understanding of and constructive participation in their child’s progress.
  • Build and maintain comprehensive, school-wide preventative needs programming.
  • Consult with other school personnel in gathering and sharing appropriate information, as well as to establish staff roles and responsibilities regarding student needs beyond general academic education.
  • Keep appropriate records of cases for use by school staff members and non-school reporting agencies.
  • Prepare and submit timely reports on students referred for evaluation.
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents/guardians, colleagues and principal.
  • Attend required faculty and staff meetings.
  • Cooperate with the principal and staff members in school related meetings, activities and projects.
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion regarding school personnel, students and general school matters.
  • Work with the resource team to assist with behavioral and academic supports.
