Lighthouse Community Charter School is looking for a Counselor who is relentlessly committed to ensuring that traditionally underserved students achieve our mission of completing college and securing the career of choice. Lighthouse staff believe that this important mission is not only attainable; it is essential to transforming our Oakland community. The Counselor will be an integral part of an RTI Team which ensures all students receive necessary academic, behavioral, and social-emotional supports to thrive in alignment with the Lighthouse Mission, Theory of Change, Graduate Profile, and Instructional Stances . This role includes responsibilities that support students in three primary ways: 1.) individual student support, including crisis response, 2.) group counseling and support, and 3.) staff support, including coaching and leadership in the COST process.

Requirements

  • Appropriate Master’s Degree required
  • Appropriate California Pupil Personnel Services Credential or full licensure LMFT, LCSW, or other Mental Health License, required
  • Experience working in urban public schools and with high school students, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide counseling, case management, and consultation services for a caseload of students, dependent on need and determined in conjunction with the Clinical Intervention Team. This may include: engaging caregivers and teachers, providing frequent opportunities to discuss student growth and needs as well as report out on goals and progress
  • Work collaboratively and effectively as a member of the RTI Team and instructional staff, including but not limited to:
  • Provide consultation and professional development to support staff in providing social/emotional and behavior supports to promote success for all students
  • Implement and track research-based interventions aligned with Response to Intervention
  • Provide consultation to school staff on safety assessments, mental health crises, and accessing social
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism at all times
  • Individual caseload of 1:1 counseling/therapy clients
  • Represent therapists at COST meetings
  • Participate and liaise with the Clinical Interventions Team
  • Therapy services for students as needed in collaboration with Clinical Interventions Team
  • Process referrals from COST or counseling referrals and ensure communication back to staff and teachers
  • Engage in Staff PD Spaces: Whole Staff PD, Band-Level, Grade-Level, and PLCs
  • Be a connector to families: Build relationships with families
  • Connect families with internal and external services and resources as necessary
  • Provide trainings for families as needed in coordination with Family Liaison
  • Schedule monthly meetings with teachers and provide necessary updates on students who were referred for services and/or through a COST Process
  • Teacher consultation and in class behavior support and observation
  • Support teachers in classroom lesson design and facilitation as necessary
  • Counseling Groups/Circle Facilitation (Co-facilitating with Deans)
  • Psycho Educational Groups/Skill Building Groups
  • Possible Areas of Focus: social skills, grief, aggressive behavior, communication skills, stress reduction, anger management, focus and attentional redirection
  • Additional Duties as Needed
