The School Guidance Counselor is primarily responsible to the Principal(s) of assigned school(s) for providing guidance and counseling services to pupils, staff members, and patrons, as directed by the Building Principal. The Counselor is also responsible to the Coordinator of Guidance and Counseling Services. This role involves designing and implementing a building program that provides growth opportunities for all USD 259 pupils through individual, small group, and/or classroom activities. The counselor will provide individual and group counseling, classroom guidance for students concerning personal, educational, or social needs, and serve as a resource support for behavior and trauma-informed approaches. Additionally, the position involves providing information and services related to post-secondary opportunities, consultation for teachers and parents, educational career planning, assisting College Career Coordinators, and participating in pupil orientation/transition programs. The counselor will also be a member of the Child Study Team, serve as a liaison between school and community agencies, provide data to the Principal and staff for curriculum change recommendations, and maintain a record-keeping system for guidance and counseling services and pupil needs. This role may also assist with course assignments, master schedule development, and attend professional development opportunities. Additional duties may be assigned by the supervisor.
