About The Position

Oversees the implementation of a comprehensive school counseling program/academic, career, and social and emotional, based on the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) standards that are aligned with school and division goals. The position manages the CCHS counseling/student services department which consists of three school counselors, VCAC college adviser, behavior interventionist, registrar, and Germanna Career Adviser. Responsible for providing direct and indirect services for our student body which support the academic, personal, social-emotional, and career development of each student.

Requirements

  • Master's degree
  • Demonstrated prior experience of the ability to work cooperatively and effectively with students, teachers, staff, parents, and others.
  • Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience.
  • Knowledge of the comprehensive developmental guidance programs
  • Knowledge of Standards for Counseling Programs in Virginia Public Schools, and the ASCA National Model of School Counseling.
  • Knowledge of Ethical Standards as defined by American Counseling Association (ACA) and ASCA.
  • Ability to demonstrate professional, moral, and ethical standards as well as personal integrity in all interactions within the school and within the community.
  • Ability to dress in such a manner as to command the respect of the community, parents, teachers, and pupils.
  • Ability to possess good physical and mental health and personal qualities which build the confidence of pupils, parents, teachers, and other school administrators.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with all employees and the public.
  • Ability to communicate openly and effectively with students, parents, community patrons, staff, and administration as a positive representative of Culpeper County School system.
  • Organizational and leadership experience to plan and supervise the work of subordinate employees.
  • Appropriate school counselor certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides oversight to the overall implementation of the school counseling department
  • Advocates for policies, staffing and funding to support the implementation of an effective comprehensive school counseling program
  • Conduct individual student meetings
  • Serves on the school leadership team and division advisory committees on behalf of the counseling department
  • Assists administrators in the evaluation process of school counselors by recommending goals based on student data and professional needs, collecting evidence, providing peer observations and feedback on job performance to school counselors
  • Serves as a mentor to new school counselors
  • Collaborates with administrators, designs, and implements professional development activities for school counselors, teachers, and staff within their areas of responsibilities and expertise
  • Serves on the School Crisis Team and collaborates with school division administrators regarding crisis response efforts within the division
  • Serves as the daily point of contact for the school registrar and ensures records of students are maintained according to school board policies and administrative directives
  • Oversees the education records review of new students by school counselors
  • Collaborates with administrators on the design and implementation of school orientation procedures and programs for new students and their parents
  • Collaborates with administrators on the preparation and presentation of academic, career readiness, behavioral, school climate data and reports for dissemination to stakeholders
  • Collaborates with administrators on development of the school’s master course schedule
  • Create schedules, review/revise schedules as needed, balance class sizes, correct schedules at the beginning of the school year and enroll new students
  • Collaborates with administrators on the development of student recognition efforts to build a positive school climate
  • Collaborates with administrators on the development and implementation of parent involvement activities and informational events
  • Coordinates and serves as the point of contact and liaison for online course providers, college credit course providers on and off campus, and with colleges and universities for college fairs and visits (High School Only)
  • Performs other assigned duties
