About The Position

The Walters Art Museum is seeking a School Communities Educator to coordinate and teach collections-based art and arts-integrated lessons to PreK-12 students. This part-time role focuses on single-visit programs, both onsite and online, aiming to advance arts education in Baltimore City and Maryland. The Educator will work closely with the Manager of School Communities to ensure a positive experience for school groups and will be part of the Learning, Experience, and Community Engagement (LECE) department, which is committed to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion.

Requirements

HS or GED diploma required.
At least 1 year of experience teaching youth in informal or formal educational settings.
Excellent customer service skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and public speaking skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with students and adults of diverse ages and backgrounds.
Excellent organizational and administrative skills.
Working knowledge of Google Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and digital communication platforms such as Zoom and Google Meet.
Demonstrated interest in art and working with youth.
All employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. The museum does not sponsor work visas.

Nice To Haves

AA or BA in education, art history, or studio art preferred.
Bilingual in Spanish and English strongly preferred.
At least 1 year of coursework or professional experience in art history, art education, or museum education preferred.
Knowledge of PreK-12 developmental stages, arts education, and or local and national education standards preferred.
Experience planning and executing events preferred.

Responsibilities

Develop, coordinate, and teach inclusive and inquiry-based PreK-12 lessons that connect to the Walters’ collections and exhibitions onsite, online, and offsite.
Collaborate with PreK-12 teachers and Visitor Experience and LECE teams to coordinate guided and self-guided school group visits, including troubleshooting logistical challenges, and administrative duties as assigned related to school groups.
Liaise with school groups onsite and serve as the first point of contact to Visitor Experience and Security teams for day-of challenges and logistics.
Coordinate college readiness and career development opportunities for PreK-12 students.
Support outreach and promotion of School Communities programs.
Actively contribute to the work of the School Communities unit and LECE department as a whole, including staffing large-scale events, attending meetings, participating in program development and reflection, and organizing supplies.
Support LECE’s outreach and promotion, such as by distributing flyers offsite and through email communication.
Participate in trainings and other professional development opportunities to deepen knowledge about the Walters’ exhibitions and collections, museum education, gallery teaching pedagogy, audience engagement, lesson planning, inclusive an
