About The Position

Primrose School of Old Bridge is seeking a dependable, organized, and enthusiastic School Chef & Food Service Coordinator to join their team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a school environment, takes pride in maintaining a clean and organized kitchen, and understands the importance of providing safe, nutritious meals and snacks to young children. The position primarily focuses on simple food preparation, coordinating daily meal service, managing inventory and supplies, and supporting the smooth operation of the school, as catered lunches are received daily. In addition to food service duties, this role also involves light housekeeping, such as managing classroom laundry, and providing general operational support to teachers and school leadership.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in food service, school kitchens, childcare, or a similar environment preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, follow routines, and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Basic understanding of food safety, sanitation, and food allergies.
  • Dependable, punctual, flexible, and willing to assist wherever needed.
  • Positive attitude, strong communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively with teachers and school leadership.
  • Must meet applicable childcare licensing and background-check requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve simple breakfast and snack items.
  • Receive, organize, and distribute catered lunches to classrooms daily.
  • Prepare and distribute morning and afternoon snacks according to the school's menu and schedule.
  • Occasionally bake or prepare special treats for classroom activities, celebrations, and school events.
  • Maintain awareness of children's food allergies, dietary restrictions, and individual meal requirements to ensure safe food preparation and distribution.
  • Follow all applicable food safety, sanitation, and proper food-handling procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary, and well-organized kitchen and food preparation area.
  • Monitor food inventory and ensure adequate supplies are always available.
  • Place and manage orders for food, snacks, and kitchen supplies.
  • Maintain inventory of disposable supplies, including plates, cups, napkins, utensils, and other essentials.
  • Receive deliveries, organize storage areas, and monitor expiration dates.
  • Help minimize food waste and maintain efficient kitchen operations.
  • Assist with light housekeeping responsibilities during available downtime, including washing, drying, folding, and organizing classroom laundry (sheets, blankets, bibs).
  • Help maintain cleanliness and organization in shared school areas.
  • Provide general operational support to teachers and school leadership as needed.
  • Perform other reasonable school support duties as assigned.
