About The Position

A School Certifying Official (SCO) works under the direction of and reports to the Associate Director of Student Financial Services. As part of a team of SCOs, the role ensures that Golden Gate University complies with U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs regulations, processes enrollment certifications, monitors academic progress, and serves as a liaison between student veterans and the VA to help ensure uninterrupted educational benefits. Each SCO is responsible for a designated cohort of students. The position is remote and has high-volume periods before and during the start of academic terms, including January, April/May, and August/September.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree, or a combination of education and related experience.
• At least 2–3 years of experience in higher education, preferably in a Registrar's Office, Financial Aid, or Veterans Affairs department.
• Exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills to guide non-traditional students and securely manage confidential data.
• Commitment to delivering high-quality, responsive customer service to the university community.

Nice To Haves

• Direct, hands-on experience using VA-ONCE or the VA Enrollment Manager system is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate student schedules and degree audits, then submit accurate enrollment certifications to the VA through its digital platforms.
• Maintain familiarity with VA education benefit chapters, including the Post-9/11 GI Bill, Montgomery GI Bill, and VR&E, to support institutional compliance and prevent financial overpayments.
• Advise student veterans on benefit eligibility, required paperwork, and military tuition assistance.
• Monitor the academic progress, enrollment changes, and graduation status of VA-funded students, and promptly report adjustments to the VA.
• Collaborate with Financial Aid, Student Accounts, and Academic Advising to ensure student files are complete and institutional reporting standards are met.
