About The Position
The School Certifying Official (SCO) works under the direction of and reports to the Associate Director of Student Financial Services. Working with a team of SCOs, this role helps ensure the university complies with U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs regulations, processes enrollment certifications, monitors academic progress, and serves as a liaison between student veterans and the VA to support uninterrupted educational benefits. Each SCO is responsible for a designated cohort of students. The position is remote. High-volume periods occur before and during the start of academic terms, including January, April/May, and August/September.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree, or a combination of education and related experience.
- At least 2–3 years of experience in higher education.
- Exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to guide non-traditional students and securely manage confidential data.
- Commitment to providing high-quality, responsive customer service to the university community.
Nice To Haves
- Higher education experience in a Registrar’s Office, Financial Aid, or Veterans Affairs department.
- Direct, hands-on experience using VA-ONCE or the VA Enrollment Manager system.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate student schedules and degree audits and submit accurate enrollment certifications to the VA through its digital platforms.
- Maintain familiarity with VA education benefit chapters, including the Post-9/11 GI Bill, Montgomery GI Bill, and VR&E, to support institutional compliance and prevent financial overpayments.
- Advise student veterans on benefit eligibility, required paperwork, and military tuition assistance.
- Monitor VA-funded students’ academic progress, enrollment changes, and graduation status, and promptly report adjustments to the VA.
- Collaborate with Financial Aid, Student Accounts, and Academic Advising to complete student files and meet institutional reporting standards.
