School Bus Driver - AmeriCorps
About The Position
SailFuture is seeking an AmeriCorps member in St. Petersburg, Florida, to drive students to and from school on active school days. The driver is a consistent, supportive presence who helps students arrive on time and ready for the school day. The role includes safely operating school buses and other school vehicles, setting a calm and orderly tone, and building positive, respectful relationships with students. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:30–8:30 a.m. and 2:00–4:30 p.m. on active school days. Service hours, supervision, and program rules are covered at orientation.
Requirements
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- CDL preferred, or willingness to obtain one.
- Reliable and punctual.
- Patience and clear communication with teens and staff.
- Attention to safety details.
- Flexibility when schedules change.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- AmeriCorps eligibility: U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident; at least 17 years old; high school diploma or equivalent; and within term limits.
Nice To Haves
- Experience working with teenagers.
- Commercial driver's license (CDL).
Responsibilities
- Safely pick up and drop off students every school day.
- Follow traffic laws and school policies.
- Inspect vehicles regularly and keep them clean.
- Check that students are in uniform and have what they need before departure.
- Keep rides calm and orderly.
- Build positive, respectful relationships with students.
- Report concerns, incidents, or issues to school staff promptly.
