About The Position

We're looking for caring, dependable, and safety-minded Bus Aides to help ensure students travel safely to and from school. As a Bus Aide, you'll work alongside the bus driver to support students during loading, unloading, and transportation while helping create a positive and safe environment for all passengers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children or in student transportation is preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain if required).
  • Experience working with students with special needs is a plus.
  • Must successfully complete: Criminal background check and fingerprint clearance, Family Care Safety Registry clearance, Pre-employment physical examination.
  • Must attend required district training, including behavior management and safety training.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately in stressful situations.
  • Strong commitment to student safety and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work well with students, families, drivers, teachers, and school staff.
  • Dependable, flexible, and able to adapt to changing assignments.
  • Basic math, reading, and writing skills.
  • Ability to complete reports and follow written procedures.
  • Lift up to 40 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Assist students with mobility needs.
  • Bend, kneel, crouch, climb, push, pull, and move throughout a moving bus.
  • Work both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Safely operate equipment such as wheelchair lifts, safety restraints, two-way radios, and other transportation equipment.

  • Experience working with students with special needs is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students with safely boarding and exiting the bus.
  • Supervise students during transportation and encourage safe, appropriate behavior.
  • Support students with special needs, including behavioral, medical, or mobility needs.
  • Secure wheelchairs, child safety restraint systems, and other specialized equipment as needed.
  • Help maintain a safe environment by redirecting student behavior when necessary.
  • Assist during emergency situations and evacuations if needed.
  • Communicate concerns, incidents, or accidents to the appropriate staff.
  • Complete incident reports and other required documentation.
  • Escort students to school staff or authorized adults upon arrival.
  • Attend required trainings, meetings, and in-service sessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
